Abstract

The implementation of alternative assessment in matriculation colleges is a transformation in student assessment system which is in line with the mission of Matriculation Division towards developing the full potential of an individual. Lecturers are seen as the main force which determines the success of alternative assessment implementation in matriculation colleges. Therefore the readiness of lecturers to implement alternative assessment is one key element which needs to be established before alternative assessment is implemented. This study seeks to identify and verify the research conceptual framework and confirm the validity and reliability of instrument used. The instrument used in this study was 21 items which measured five main fixed constructs. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmation Factor Analysis (CFA) were carried out in this study. The readiness of lecturers to implement alternative assessment could be measured through knowledge on practice of classroom assessment, awareness of student diversity, reflection, motivation and record management. Research samples consisted of 453 male and female lecturers with a range of teaching experience between 1–13 years in matriculation colleges and teaching different subjects. CFA analysis result found the model used could measure the level of lecturer’s readiness to implement alternative assessment at a reliability value of each construct between 0.78 and 0.86.
