Abstract

This article aims to seek the relationship between human language and its culture as well as the role played by Islam in shaping man’s civilization. We cannot disintegrate between language use and culture practice of the native speaker. Evidently, language and culture are indivisible. They cannot be separated. A culture is a reflection of the language that is used in all communities. It is essential to know culture for the accuracy of the language used. Islam has highlighted the adab al–Kalãm or adab al–Lisãn, which is suitable to be implemented in human languages and acceptable as a universal communication culture for the ummah. Islam recognizes varieties of language and the national language along with the determinant medium of Arabic as Islamic language. Arabic language is regarded as a religious language but every body is allowed to learn and use it. However, all languages can be used as a medium for the practice of al–dacwah worldwide.
