Abstract

This study attempts to identify the profile and personalities of Faculty of Management and Human Resource Development (FPPSM) students whose academic performance is under average, the causes of their poor academic performance and types of training that are needed by them. The respondents in this study are all FPPSM students whose CGPA is less than 2.5. Data were collected through questionnaires and the responses were analyzed descriptively using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The reliability of the questionnaire is 0.659. The findings of the study show that most of the students whose academic performance was under average at FPPSM are Malays, from rural areas or small towns and from low socio-economic income families. In this study, the majority of the students belong to the “introvert†personalities down who grade their own capabilities and have problems in adapting themselves to the learning techniques at the institution of higher learning. Most of them need training in career guidance, time management, effective communication and study skills. In this study, several recommendations were suggested to FPPSM and UTM.
