Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the level of teachers' soft skills and their involvement in decision making of school management. A survey method was utilized by using questionnaire as research instrument. A total of 196 teachers from 10 national secondary schools in South West district of Penang became research respondents. The reliability of the instrument was good and very high with Cronbach Alpha values ranged from 0.91 to 0.99. Data was analyzed by using descriptive statistic, paired sample t-test, Pearson correlation and multiple regression Enter method. The result showed that the level of soft skills needed by teachers was higher than the level of soft skills gained by teachers at their workplace. On the other hand, the degree of teachers' involvement in decision making of school management was at low level. Finding revealed that there were significant relationships and effects between the level of soft skills gainded by teachers toward the level of teachers' involvement in decision making of school management. Finally, soft skills components such as communicative skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and leadership skills gained by teachers were the three significant predictors toward the level of teachers' involvement in decision making of school management.
