WhatsApp: Komuniti Maya dalam Teknologi Komunikasi Mudah Alih

The purpose of this study is to look at the themes of discussions and contributions of a virtual community using WhatsApp application. This is a value-added application to smartphone users. This study will employ cross-sectional qualitative approach. This study will be conducted in a virtual community under the purview of the Setiausaha Akademik, Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Pendidikan Teknik, Bandar Enstek, Negeri Sembilan. A total number of 252 messages collected over a period of 7 weeks starting from 27th January to 16th March 2013 will be analysed by using content analysis. The findings of this study showed that there are five main themes which included accessibility, motivation, participation, exchange of information and knowledge creation. Besides that, this study is able to contibute in terms of cost savings operation, productivity in workflow processes, fast information accessibility and the opportunity to raise motivation and confidence in the workplace. However, the limitation of the study is the stability of internet connection and the use of suitable smartphone. Overall, this study is able to highlight another media in a quick decision making process in delivering of information, further action and increase productivity.Â
