Abstract

Post-Industry Revolution 4.0 has given many changes in various aspects including the technical and vocational education system. The field of work is becoming more complex today, causing students and graduates of vocational colleges to master a solid foundation of job skills to attract the attention of employers in the workplace. However, it is quite saddening to see vocational graduates are treated the same as those who do not have professional qualifications in basic job skills and are also ignored and undervalued by employers. This phenomenon raises the question of whether Malaysia's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system can meet the demand to train these students to be knowledgeable and capable of adapting basic job skills in line with the Industrial Revolution 4.0 in the workplace. A study was carried out at the Vocational College to evaluate work-based learning methods that fit with Industrial Revolution 4.0. A total of six employees of a consulting industry company and 92 lecturers at eight Vocational Colleges have been respondents to the findings of this study. The results of the study show that skills such as problem-solving, marketability, teamwork, and leadership are important from an industry perspective. Technology-centered learning methods received the highest ratings, followed by project learning, industrial visitings, and ethical and civilized learning. The lecturer believes that this method provides an opportunity for students to be ready to face the demands of industry in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. It is hoped that this job-based learning method will be able to place graduates in the job industry in the future.
